A Study on Promoting Lifelong Education in ¡®Active Ageing¡¯ through the Review of Elder Academy Case in Hong Kong

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to examine the current situation and characteristics of the Hong Kong life-long education system through the Elder Academy to consider the differences and build on the findings to further enhance the Korean life-long education system through Active Ageing.

Methods : Examination of the Korean national elderly education system as well as literary research from Hong Kong Elder Academy.

Results : Hong Kong has senior committees in each district and are directly involved in all senior policies. It can be examined that the Hong Kong senior committee and citizens have formed a strong network with schools, institutions and organizations based on needs and characteristics. Notable findings show that a variety of traditional, innovative, formal as well as informal courses are developed, requiring joint investment and participation between the government and the stake holders. The effectiveness of the system is shown through the intricate social network developed in conjunction with the cooperation from the youth in the community and higher education institutes.

Conclusion : In conclusion, it is necessary to establish an active Elderly Education environment and develop a professional and meticulous program to prepare policies for senior citizens to live a vibrant life with a positive mind set. The proposal is to not only involve the government or non-profit organizations but the ¡®Silver Industry¡¯ to promote and provide the Elderly Education system for Active Ageing.
